Citizens Advice Mid Suffolk have published a Guide to helping people with cost of living problems.
At our Cost of Living Forum, we heard from the frontline workers at partner organisations that they don’t always know how to help people who are struggling with the cost of living. The guide is aimed at any organisation or person who speaks to people in Mid Suffolk who need help, including:
- Schools
- Charities
- Councillors and community leaders
- Statutory services
- Healthcare workers
The aim of the guide is to:
- Explain what you can do in a crisis
- Give you some things you can suggest to someone who you think can manage themselves
- Explain how you can support someone who is maybe a bit overwhelmed by their financial difficulties
- Give you an overview of what the next steps a person will need to take to tackle debt or claim benefits or deal with being evicted. You may be able to encourage people to take the next step if you understand what is involved.
One person who helped us to develop this guide said, “I have found this very useful, it helps me with having confidence and knowledge in helping to guide and support the families I work with, I knew help is out there but found it overwhelming at times in finding the correct path for my families so this certainly helps in me quickly finding them the correct support they may need”
